How to unlock your phone from Dish

Everything happens remotely using your IMEI number. Your phone is unlocked at the carrier end and nothing is installed on it.

Dish Wireless is Boost Mobile, and Boost's policy is the one that applies

DISH bought Sprint's prepaid business in 2020, built a network of its own, and was combined with EchoStar. What survived all of that is a retail brand called Boost Mobile: dishwireless.com now redirects to boostmobile.com, and the old DISH and Boost Infinite unlocking policy pages redirect to Boost Mobile's. So a Dish-branded handset is a Boost handset as far as unlocking is concerned, and the rule that applies depends on whether the line was prepaid or postpaid.

There is no separate Dish unlocking policy to read The unlocking policy published under the DISH and Boost Infinite help sites now resolves to the Boost Mobile one, and that document names only Boost Mobile. Nothing in it carves DISH Wireless out, so a Dish-branded device is handled under the Boost rule for the plan type it was sold on.
One year after activation, on prepaid Boost unlocks a prepaid device one year after initial activation, for customers in good standing who own the device, and does it remotely within two business days of the device becoming eligible.
The balance clear, and the account not suspended A financed prepaid device has to be paid off in full before it is eligible. If the account is in suspended status at the one-year mark, the device does not become eligible until it comes out of that status — the clock does not carry it through on its own.
Postpaid runs on a different rule A postpaid device paid for in full is eligible straight away. On a financing plan it becomes eligible once the plan is complete. Either way the unlock is done remotely within two business days, with no additional fee.

With us

We work from the IMEI, not from a Dish account, so none of those conditions apply to us. A handset that has not served its year, one with a balance still on it, or one on a suspended account can still be unlocked here. Our IMEI check is paid — it is not a free check, and we will not pretend otherwise. If we cannot complete the unlock you get your money back; the single exception is an IMEI that turns out to be blacklisted or barred on a national register, which is settled with a credit note rather than a refund.

It cannot release another carrier's phone The policy states plainly that it is not able to unlock devices from other carriers. If you brought the handset to Dish or Boost from somewhere else, the lock belongs to whoever sold it, and you are sent back to that carrier.

The network underneath the brand has been changing EchoStar agreed during 2025 to sell the spectrum the network was built on to SpaceX and AT&T, with the FCC approving the sale in May 2026 and Boost continuing under a hybrid mobile virtual network operator arrangement. An unlocked handset still has to support the bands of whichever US network you move it to, so check that rather than assuming it will match any US SIM.

What is out of scope, and how a barred IMEI is settled This is a network lock removal. It does not touch iCloud or Activation Lock, an Android device-owner or enterprise enrolment, or an IMEI barred on a national register as lost, stolen or unpaid. Where we cannot complete an unlock you get your money back; the single exception is an IMEI that turns out to be blacklisted or barred, which is settled with a credit note rather than a refund.

When Dish says no

Can you unlock my phone if Dish says it is not eligible?

Usually yes. Carriers apply their own eligibility rules — minimum time on the network, balance paid off, account in good standing. We are not bound by those rules, so a handset Dish will not unlock today can very often be unlocked by us today.

Can I unlock while I am still paying the phone off?

Yes. An outstanding instalment balance or an active contract does not stop us. You still owe the balance to your carrier — unlocking does not cancel the debt — but it no longer blocks you from using another network.

Do I need to wait out the carrier minimum period?

No. There is no waiting period on our side. That is the single most common reason people come to us rather than going through the carrier.

Do you need my Dish account or the account holder?

No. We do not need the account holder, a password, a PIN, or any contact with Dish. All we need is the IMEI, which you get by dialling *#06# on the handset.

What if I bought the phone second-hand?

That is fine. Ownership history does not affect the unlock — this is exactly the case carriers refuse, because the account was never in your name.

Yes. A device on a business account is unlocked the same way, and we do not need authorisation from the account administrator.

What if the phone is reported lost or stolen?

We do not unlock handsets reported lost or stolen. An unlock removes the carrier lock, not a blacklist report, so a barred IMEI would stay barred anyway. We check this for you as part of the eligibility check when we process your order.
